Finally for Fearnley

NSWIS athlete Kurt Fearnley has won his first gold medal in the last event at the 2008 Paralympic Games by claiming victory in the T54 Men's Marathon.

Fearnley had missed out on gold medals in three other events, taking two silvers and a bronze but added the gold when he crossed the line in a personal best time of 1:23.17 to take his personal medal tally four for the Games.

Fearnley had some luck when his two main arch-rivals from Great Britain and Thailand didn't start the race, but still had to work hard to ensure the victory.

The NSWIS medal tally from the Games stands at six gold, 13 silver and eight bronze medals.
