Services Technical Analysis

Technical Analysis

Technical analysis broadly represents servicing undertaken to improve the athlete and coaches understanding of how the athlete is performing the various skills required for success in a particular sport.  This information can then be used to compare the athletes technical skills with the desired level of skills, and ultimately determine the appropriate action to improve the skills where required.

At the NSWIS technical analysis is performed in the disciplines of :
Biomechanics

NSWIS Biomechanists measure and assess movement in sport, providing feedback on the modifications needed to improve the technical component of performance. They are also able to assist in providing information to doctors and physiotherapists to assist minimising injury risks for athletes. They often use high speed video to capture images of athletes in competition or training, and analyse the video footage using specialist computer technology.
In Rowing and Canoeing, NSWIS has specially designed scientific equipment attached to the boats which measure such things as boat velocity and acceleration, forces produced by the paddlers on the oars and the gates, and foot stretcher forces. Data can be sent straight to the coach’s computer while they are coaching. The athletes can also see their results on PalmPilots installed in their boats.

Performance Analysis

NSWIS Performance Analysts seek to analyse competition and training performance via a range of computer based systems for individual and team sports. Data is collected during competition and training to provide information to both the athlete and coach.

Data collected during competition can include time-coded video or statistical data which can be used to provide feedback via video to the athlete regarding skill and game tactics, and provides the coach with game and player statistics.

Training sessions can be enhanced by the use of computer based systems that enable real time visual feedback. This alerts athlete and coach to changes in technique within and across training sessions. They can also provide valuable comparisons of an athlete’s technique compared to the world’s best.

NSWIS Performance Analysis utilises various game and skill analysis computer packages to achieve the most streamlined service for sports and coaches. These include SportsCode, GameBreaker, Snapper, DartTrainer, and Swinger.

In addition to servicing at competition and trainin, NSWIS Performance Analysis also assist coaches with the production of videos and DVDs post event. Training is provided to relevant personnel in the use of the Final Cut Pro editing software, and in the use of iDVD and DVD Studio Pro for creating authored DVDs.
