NSWIS scholarship holder Tom Miller has joined an exclusive club, becoming only the third person in Australian history to win the 50-100m Freestyle double, at the Australian Short Course Swimming Championships.
Miller Clocked a time of 47.86, which equalled Olympic gold medallist Chris Fydler’s fastest time, and propelled him to seventh fastest Australian of all time. The time was more impressive considering the swimmers above him on the all time list, have all won an Olympic medal.
“This has really been the best week of my life but it’s full steam ahead now for World’s trials,” Miller said.
“I knew I had to work the last ten metres and then the last five metres and I put my head down and didn’t breathe.”
Fellow NSWIS scholarship holder Mitchell Patterson came in second in a time of 48.10.
In other results from NSWIS athletes on the final night of competition, Daniel Arnamart finished well to claim second in the 200m backstroke, with 18 year old Jared Goldthorpe coming in third. Matthew Abood also claimed a second place in the 50m breastroke, while Olivia Halicek won silver in the 50 freestyle. Lachlan Staples and Theodore Pasialis both claimed a third in their respective events.
