NSWIS unearthed its latest world record holder when 22 year-old swimming sensation Matthew Jaukovic set a new world mark in the 50m Butterfly. The record came on the opening night of the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday.
Jaukovic, clocked a sizzling 22.50 seconds to take 0.10 seconds off the previous world record. He then backed up on the Sunday to take out the 100m Butterfly, clocking a time of 50.50 just outside his personal best.
These results came on the back off an outstanding Australian Short Course championships only weeks earlier, where he broke two Australian All-comers records.
The record breaking swim was his first for Australia and he will now embark on the remaining four FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cups in Singapore, Moscow, Stockholm and Berlin.
Other NSWIS highlights from the weekend included Matthew Abood claiming silver in the 50m Freestyle and 16 year old Breastroke rising star Samantha Marshall winning bronze in the 100m Breastroke.
