More medals at Oceania Championships

6 June

NSWIS athletes continue to achieve fantastic results at the Oceania Swim Championships in New Zealand.

15 year old Jessica Legge took out the gold medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke after a thrilling final, with Olivia Halicek picking up the bronze medal in the event.

Legge was a mere .03 in front of her New Zealand competitor but pulled away over the final 50 metres to win in a time of 1:11.30.

“It was amazing how many people Annabelle (Carey, silver medallist) had here but it just made me go faster,” Legge said.

Legge also picked up a bronze medal in the women’s 400m individual medley.

“I wanted to swim a personal best and win and I achieved one of those things. It is a privilege to be on this team and a great experience for me so to get a gold medal is an even better experience.”

Theodore Pasialis won another gold medal while Reece Turner added to his bronze medal after their performance in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay where the team broke the championship record to finish in a time of 7:25.63.

James Stacey picked up a silver medal in the men’s 100m breaststroke, while Kacey Pilgrim finished fifth in the women’s 400m individual medley.

In two days of competition Australia has won nine gold, nine silver and ten bronze medals at the meet.
