Continued success for Rowers heading into Beijing

2 June 2008

The Australian Rowing Team have achieved some excellent results in the World Cup held in Lucerne, Switzerland over the weekend. This was the first time the whole team was together for competition and it resulted in success.

With selections pending it looks like Australia will be represented in every rowing event in Beijing, something no other country has done.

As a team they won three golds and two silvers with all teams placing well in their respective races. The Men’s Four was the most surprising of wins, upsetting World Champions New Zealand to win their final.

NSWIS rower Francis Hegerty was very satisfied with the win saying “ I thought we had them at the 1000 (metre mark), it was great."

The team now moves on to Varese tomorrow for one weeks training prior to travelling to Poland for the final World Cup event.
