Stingers win bronze at World League Super finals

16 June 2008

The Australian women’s water polo team, the Stingers, featuring seven NSWIS athletes, has won bronze at the World League Super Finals after defeating Canada 7-6.

Australia’s first goal came through NSWIS athlete Taniele Gofers in the second quarter before fellow NSWIS athlete Mia Santoromito even the score at 2-2 only minutes later.

From there the game was a constant struggle for both teams, with Australia eventually getting the upper hand thanks to an outstanding effort from Alicia McCormack in goals who made 12 saves.
