NSWIS swimmer Sophie Edington has won a gold medal in the women’s 50m backstroke event at a meet in Barcelona as Australia pick up 40 medals in two days.
Edington, a triple Commonwealth Games gold medallist won the event in 27.83, just 0.16 outside her world record to easily win by almost one second of her second place competitor from Croatia.
Fellow NSWIS athlete Grant Brits won the ‘b’ final in the men’s 200m in 1:48.98, a time good enough for silver in the ‘a’ final.
Edington’s next event is in France this coming weekend.
