
NSWIS Athlete Julie Richardson
Julie Richardson OAM (nee Towers) (born 12th October 1976) is one of the NSWIS’s most successful international hockey athletes. Richardson debuted for Australia in 1997 and won her first gold medal the following year at the 1998 Hockey World Cup. With 183 international caps and 65 international goals Richardson wrapped up her hockey career and played her last game in 2005.
The highlight of her career came in 2000 when she was selected as one of two NSWIS hockey athletes to play in front of a home crowd at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Beating Argentina 3-1 the Hockeyroos did Australia proud and claimed victory, winning a gold medal.
Richardson was an NSWIS Scholarship holder in the Women’s Hockey Program from 2001 until 2005. In 2002 she received the NSWIS Team of the Year Award.
