
NSWIS Athlete Jana Rawlinson
Jana Rawlinson (nee Pittman) (born 9th November 1982) is a World Champion track and field athlete who by the age of 18 was the fastest junior 400-metre hurdler in history.
At 15, Rawlinson won the 400m hurdles at the 1999 World Youth (under-18) Championships. The following year she won the 400m/400m hurdles double at the World Junior (under-20) Championships. She became the first athlete in history to take this double at a World Championships or Olympics and earned the title of IAAF rising star for her achievements.
Rawlinson competed at the Sydney Olympics in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay. Since then she has won a string of medals including a gold medal at the 2003 World Championships, becoming the youngest 400m hurdles Olympic or World Champion in history (male or female). Rawlinson defended her 400m hurdles title in 2006 at the Commonwealth Games, where she also won gold in the 4x400m relay.
Rawlinson was an NSWIS Scholarship holder in the Track and Field Program from 1998 until 2000 and joined the program again in 2008. She was winner of the NSWIS Junior Athlete of the Year in 2000.
