NSWIS Athlete David Hall
Finishing top of the world rankings six times from 1995 to 2005 David Hall OAM (born 14th January 1970) has won every major wheelchair tennis title possible. A four time Australian Paralympic Games representative, Hall fulfilled his life time goal to win gold in front of his home crowd in Sydney. He won six Olympic medals in total - one gold, three silvers and two bronze.
Hall started playing wheelchair tennis at the age of 19, just three years after losing both legs when he was hit by a car. His win at the 1995 US Open took his world ranking to number one for the first time and was the beginning of a long career at the top. He has won eight US Open titles, five British Open titles, and eight Australian Open titles.
Hall holds the record for the most Super Series titles wins of any wheelchair tennis player ever to have played, the record stands at 18. Hall announced his retirement from the game in 2005 but remains an active ambassador for both wheelchair tennis and disability awareness.
Hall was an AWD NSWIS Scholarship holder from the inception of NSWIS in 1996 until 2006.
