NSWIS Sailor Darren Bundock (Left)
Darren Bundock (born 21st March 1971) has achieved international success in various sailing classes. Olympic silver medalist in 2000, paired with John Forbes, and five time Tornado World Champion and European Champion, Bundock has dominated the Tornado class since 1998.
Bundock joined forces with Forbes in 1995 and experienced a string of successes. In 2003 they won the European Championship, Pre Olympics, Princess Sofia, Volvo Champions Grand Prix, Round Texel and a third consecutive World Championships. The duo was also nominated for the ISAF World Sailor of the Year. Unfortunately Bundock and Forbes did not make the medal rankings at the 2004 Olympic Games, despite outstanding preparation.
Forbes retired shortly after the Athens Olympics which allowed Bundock to join forces with Glenn Ashby. Together they have won the Princess Sophia Trophy, Kiel Week and have become World Champions after winning the Tornado World Championships in Argentina.
Bundock has been an NSWIS Scholarship holder since 2001 and was an associate scholarship holder from 1998 to 2000. He was a finalist for the NSWIS Male Athlete of the Year in 2005 and the NSWIS Athlete of the Year Award in 2001. In 2003 he took out the NSWIS Team Athlete of the Year Award.
